PSLE A plot of land which had an area of 1020 m
2 was divided into three portions of equal width. These portions were fenced using 193 m of fence as shown.
- Find the length of RS.
- Find the perimeter of the plot of land.
(a)
Length of the width of each portion
= 36 ÷ 3
= 12 m
Length of RS
= (193 - 36 - 36 - 32 - 32) ÷ 2
= 57 ÷ 2
= 28.5 m
(b)
Area of the biggest rectangle
= 32 x 12
= 384 m
2
Area of the medium rectangle
= 28.5 x 12
= 342 m
2 Area of the smallest rectangle
= 1020 - 384 - 342
= 294 m
2 Length of the smallest rectangle
= 294 ÷ 12
= 24.5 m
Perimeter of the plot of land
= 193 - (2 x 24.5)
= 193 - 49
= 144 m
Answer(s): (a) 28.5 m
2; (b) 144 m
