PSLE A plot of land which had an area of 2261 m
2 was divided into three portions of equal width. These portions were fenced using 285 m of fence as shown.
- Find the length of LM.
- Find the perimeter of the plot of land.
(a)
Length of the width of each portion
= 51 ÷ 3
= 17 m
Length of LM
= (285 - 51 - 51 - 47 - 47) ÷ 2
= 89 ÷ 2
= 44.5 m
(b)
Area of the biggest rectangle
= 47 x 17
= 799 m
2
Area of the medium rectangle
= 44.5 x 17
= 756.5 m
2 Area of the smallest rectangle
= 2261 - 799 - 756.5
= 705.5 m
2 Length of the smallest rectangle
= 705.5 ÷ 17
= 41.5 m
Perimeter of the plot of land
= 285 - (2 x 41.5)
= 285 - 83
= 202 m
Answer(s): (a) 44.5 m
2; (b) 202 m
