PSLE A plot of land which had an area of 2006 m
2 was divided into three portions of equal width. These portions were fenced using 269 m of fence as shown.
- Find the length of HJ.
- Find the perimeter of the plot of land.
(a)
Length of the width of each portion
= 51 ÷ 3
= 17 m
Length of HJ
= (269 - 51 - 51 - 43 - 43) ÷ 2
= 81 ÷ 2
= 40.5 m
(b)
Area of the biggest rectangle
= 43 x 17
= 731 m
2
Area of the medium rectangle
= 40.5 x 17
= 688.5 m
2 Area of the smallest rectangle
= 2006 - 731 - 688.5
= 586.5 m
2 Length of the smallest rectangle
= 586.5 ÷ 17
= 34.5 m
Perimeter of the plot of land
= 269 - (2 x 34.5)
= 269 - 69
= 200 m
Answer(s): (a) 40.5 m
2; (b) 200 m
