PSLE A plot of land which had an area of 1755 m
2 was divided into three portions of equal width. These portions were fenced using 251 m of fence as shown.
- Find the length of FG.
- Find the perimeter of the plot of land.
(a)
Length of the width of each portion
= 45 ÷ 3
= 15 m
Length of FG
= (251 - 45 - 45 - 41 - 41) ÷ 2
= 79 ÷ 2
= 39.5 m
(b)
Area of the biggest rectangle
= 41 x 15
= 615 m
2
Area of the medium rectangle
= 39.5 x 15
= 592.5 m
2 Area of the smallest rectangle
= 1755 - 615 - 592.5
= 547.5 m
2 Length of the smallest rectangle
= 547.5 ÷ 15
= 36.5 m
Perimeter of the plot of land
= 251 - (2 x 36.5)
= 251 - 73
= 178 m
Answer(s): (a) 39.5 m
2; (b) 178 m
