PSLE A plot of land which had an area of 1092 m
2 was divided into three portions of equal width. These portions were fenced using 201 m of fence as shown.
- Find the length of TU.
- Find the perimeter of the plot of land.
(a)
Length of the width of each portion
= 39 ÷ 3
= 13 m
Length of TU
= (201 - 39 - 39 - 33 - 33) ÷ 2
= 57 ÷ 2
= 28.5 m
(b)
Area of the biggest rectangle
= 33 x 13
= 429 m
2
Area of the medium rectangle
= 28.5 x 13
= 370.5 m
2 Area of the smallest rectangle
= 1092 - 429 - 370.5
= 292.5 m
2 Length of the smallest rectangle
= 292.5 ÷ 13
= 22.5 m
Perimeter of the plot of land
= 201 - (2 x 22.5)
= 201 - 45
= 156 m
Answer(s): (a) 28.5 m
2; (b) 156 m
