PSLE A plot of land which had an area of 852 m
2 was divided into three portions of equal width. These portions were fenced using 179 m of fence as shown.
- Find the length of AB.
- Find the perimeter of the plot of land.
(a)
Length of the width of each portion
= 36 ÷ 3
= 12 m
Length of AB
= (179 - 36 - 36 - 29 - 29) ÷ 2
= 49 ÷ 2
= 24.5 m
(b)
Area of the biggest rectangle
= 29 x 12
= 348 m
2
Area of the medium rectangle
= 24.5 x 12
= 294 m
2 Area of the smallest rectangle
= 852 - 348 - 294
= 210 m
2 Length of the smallest rectangle
= 210 ÷ 12
= 17.5 m
Perimeter of the plot of land
= 179 - (2 x 17.5)
= 179 - 35
= 144 m
Answer(s): (a) 24.5 m
2; (b) 144 m
