PSLE A plot of land which had an area of 960 m
2 was divided into three portions of equal width. These portions were fenced using 191 m of fence as shown.
- Find the length of WX.
- Find the perimeter of the plot of land.
(a)
Length of the width of each portion
= 36 ÷ 3
= 12 m
Length of WX
= (191 - 36 - 36 - 32 - 32) ÷ 2
= 55 ÷ 2
= 27.5 m
(b)
Area of the biggest rectangle
= 32 x 12
= 384 m
2
Area of the medium rectangle
= 27.5 x 12
= 330 m
2 Area of the smallest rectangle
= 960 - 384 - 330
= 246 m
2 Length of the smallest rectangle
= 246 ÷ 12
= 20.5 m
Perimeter of the plot of land
= 191 - (2 x 20.5)
= 191 - 41
= 150 m
Answer(s): (a) 27.5 m
2; (b) 150 m
