PSLE A plot of land which had an area of 2565 m
2 was divided into three portions of equal width. These portions were fenced using 301 m of fence as shown.
- Find the length of QR.
- Find the perimeter of the plot of land.
(a)
Length of the width of each portion
= 57 ÷ 3
= 19 m
Length of QR
= (301 - 57 - 57 - 49 - 49) ÷ 2
= 89 ÷ 2
= 44.5 m
(b)
Area of the biggest rectangle
= 49 x 19
= 931 m
2
Area of the medium rectangle
= 44.5 x 19
= 845.5 m
2 Area of the smallest rectangle
= 2565 - 931 - 845.5
= 788.5 m
2 Length of the smallest rectangle
= 788.5 ÷ 19
= 41.5 m
Perimeter of the plot of land
= 301 - (2 x 41.5)
= 301 - 83
= 218 m
Answer(s): (a) 44.5 m
2; (b) 218 m
