PSLE A plot of land which had an area of 1456 m
2 was divided into three portions of equal width. These portions were fenced using 229 m of fence as shown.
- Find the length of AB.
- Find the perimeter of the plot of land.
(a)
Length of the width of each portion
= 42 ÷ 3
= 14 m
Length of AB
= (229 - 42 - 42 - 38 - 38) ÷ 2
= 69 ÷ 2
= 34.5 m
(b)
Area of the biggest rectangle
= 38 x 14
= 532 m
2
Area of the medium rectangle
= 34.5 x 14
= 483 m
2 Area of the smallest rectangle
= 1456 - 532 - 483
= 441 m
2 Length of the smallest rectangle
= 441 ÷ 14
= 31.5 m
Perimeter of the plot of land
= 229 - (2 x 31.5)
= 229 - 63
= 166 m
Answer(s): (a) 34.5 m
2; (b) 166 m
