A tank was completely filled with water. The ratio of the length of the tank to its breadth to its height is 9 : 3 : 10.
- Given that the length of the tank is 18 cm, find the volume of water in the tank.
- All the water in the tank was poured into 2 empty bottles E and F without spilling any water. As a result, Bottle E had 1300 cm3 more water than Bottle F. Find the volume of water in Bottle E. Give your answer in litres.
(a)
Length of the tank = 9 u
Breadth of the tank = 3 u
Height of the tank = 10 u
9 u = 18
1 u = 18 ÷ 9 = 2
Breadth of the tank
= 3 u
= 3 x 2
= 6 cm
Height of the tank
= 10 u
= 10 x 2
= 20 cm
Volume of water in the tank
= 18 x 6 x 20
= 2160 cm
3 (b)
Volume of water in Bottle E
= (2160 + 1300) ÷ 2
= 3460 ÷ 2
= 1730 cm
3 1730 mℓ = 1.73 ℓ
Answer(s): (a) 2160 cm
3; (b) 1.73 ℓ
