A tank was completely filled with water. The ratio of the length of the tank to its breadth to its height is 9 : 8 : 11.
- Given that the height of the tank is 22 cm, find the volume of water in the tank.
- All the water in the tank was poured into 2 empty bottles A and B without spilling any water. As a result, Bottle A had 1400 cm3 more water than Bottle B. Find the volume of water in Bottle A. Give your answer in litres.
(a)
Length of the tank = 9 u
Breadth of the tank = 8 u
Height of the tank = 11 u
11 u = 22
1 u = 22 ÷ 11 = 2
Length of the tank
= 9 u
= 9 x 2
= 18 cm
Breadth of the tank
= 8 u
= 8 x 2
= 16 cm
Volume of water in the tank
= 18 x 16 x 22
= 6336 cm
3 (b)
Volume of water in Bottle A
= (6336 + 1400) ÷ 2
= 7736 ÷ 2
= 3868 cm
3 3868 mℓ = 3.868 ℓ
Answer(s): (a) 6336 cm
3; (b) 3.868 ℓ
