A tank was completely filled with water. The ratio of the length of the tank to its breadth to its height is 8 : 3 : 11.
- Given that the length of the tank is 24 cm, find the volume of water in the tank.
- All the water in the tank was poured into 2 empty bottles S and T without spilling any water. As a result, Bottle S had 1800 cm3 more water than Bottle T. Find the volume of water in Bottle S. Give your answer in litres.
(a)
Length of the tank = 8 u
Breadth of the tank = 3 u
Height of the tank = 11 u
8 u = 24
1 u = 24 ÷ 8 = 3
Breadth of the tank
= 3 u
= 3 x 3
= 9 cm
Height of the tank
= 11 u
= 11 x 3
= 33 cm
Volume of water in the tank
= 24 x 9 x 33
= 7128 cm
3 (b)
Volume of water in Bottle S
= (7128 + 1800) ÷ 2
= 8928 ÷ 2
= 4464 cm
3 4464 mℓ = 4.464 ℓ
Answer(s): (a) 7128 cm
3; (b) 4.464 ℓ
