A tank was completely filled with water. The ratio of the length of the tank to its breadth to its height is 8 : 5 : 15.
- Given that the height of the tank is 30 cm, find the volume of water in the tank.
- All the water in the tank was poured into 2 empty bottles K and L without spilling any water. As a result, Bottle K had 1800 cm3 more water than Bottle L. Find the volume of water in Bottle K. Give your answer in litres.
(a)
Length of the tank = 8 u
Breadth of the tank = 5 u
Height of the tank = 15 u
15 u = 30
1 u = 30 ÷ 15 = 2
Length of the tank
= 8 u
= 8 x 2
= 16 cm
Breadth of the tank
= 5 u
= 5 x 2
= 10 cm
Volume of water in the tank
= 16 x 10 x 30
= 4800 cm
3 (b)
Volume of water in Bottle K
= (4800 + 1800) ÷ 2
= 6600 ÷ 2
= 3300 cm
3 3300 mℓ = 3.3 ℓ
Answer(s): (a) 4800 cm
3; (b) 3.3 ℓ
