A tank was completely filled with water. The ratio of the length of the tank to its breadth to its height is 7 : 4 : 9.
- Given that the height of the tank is 27 cm, find the volume of water in the tank.
- All the water in the tank was poured into 2 empty bottles T and U without spilling any water. As a result, Bottle T had 1600 cm3 more water than Bottle U. Find the volume of water in Bottle T. Give your answer in litres.
(a)
Length of the tank = 7 u
Breadth of the tank = 4 u
Height of the tank = 9 u
9 u = 27
1 u = 27 ÷ 9 = 3
Length of the tank
= 7 u
= 7 x 3
= 21 cm
Breadth of the tank
= 4 u
= 4 x 3
= 12 cm
Volume of water in the tank
= 21 x 12 x 27
= 6804 cm
3 (b)
Volume of water in Bottle T
= (6804 + 1600) ÷ 2
= 8404 ÷ 2
= 4202 cm
3 4202 mℓ = 4.202 ℓ
Answer(s): (a) 6804 cm
3; (b) 4.202 ℓ
