A tank was completely filled with water. The ratio of the length of the tank to its breadth to its height is 8 : 3 : 11.
- Given that the height of the tank is 33 cm, find the volume of water in the tank.
- All the water in the tank was poured into 2 empty bottles U and V without spilling any water. As a result, Bottle U had 1700 cm3 more water than Bottle V. Find the volume of water in Bottle U. Give your answer in litres.
(a)
Length of the tank = 8 u
Breadth of the tank = 3 u
Height of the tank = 11 u
11 u = 33
1 u = 33 ÷ 11 = 3
Length of the tank
= 8 u
= 8 x 3
= 24 cm
Breadth of the tank
= 3 u
= 3 x 3
= 9 cm
Volume of water in the tank
= 24 x 9 x 33
= 7128 cm
3 (b)
Volume of water in Bottle U
= (7128 + 1700) ÷ 2
= 8828 ÷ 2
= 4414 cm
3 4414 mℓ = 4.414 ℓ
Answer(s): (a) 7128 cm
3; (b) 4.414 ℓ
