A tank was completely filled with water. The ratio of the length of the tank to its breadth to its height is 7 : 5 : 9.
- Given that the height of the tank is 18 cm, find the volume of water in the tank.
- All the water in the tank was poured into 2 empty bottles B and C without spilling any water. As a result, Bottle B had 1400 cm3 more water than Bottle C. Find the volume of water in Bottle B. Give your answer in litres.
(a)
Length of the tank = 7 u
Breadth of the tank = 5 u
Height of the tank = 9 u
9 u = 18
1 u = 18 ÷ 9 = 2
Length of the tank
= 7 u
= 7 x 2
= 14 cm
Breadth of the tank
= 5 u
= 5 x 2
= 10 cm
Volume of water in the tank
= 14 x 10 x 18
= 2520 cm
3 (b)
Volume of water in Bottle B
= (2520 + 1400) ÷ 2
= 3920 ÷ 2
= 1960 cm
3 1960 mℓ = 1.96 ℓ
Answer(s): (a) 2520 cm
3; (b) 1.96 ℓ
