A tank was completely filled with water. The ratio of the length of the tank to its breadth to its height is 7 : 5 : 12.
- Given that the height of the tank is 24 cm, find the volume of water in the tank.
- All the water in the tank was poured into 2 empty bottles W and X without spilling any water. As a result, Bottle W had 1600 cm3 more water than Bottle X. Find the volume of water in Bottle W. Give your answer in litres.
(a)
Length of the tank = 7 u
Breadth of the tank = 5 u
Height of the tank = 12 u
12 u = 24
1 u = 24 ÷ 12 = 2
Length of the tank
= 7 u
= 7 x 2
= 14 cm
Breadth of the tank
= 5 u
= 5 x 2
= 10 cm
Volume of water in the tank
= 14 x 10 x 24
= 3360 cm
3 (b)
Volume of water in Bottle W
= (3360 + 1600) ÷ 2
= 4960 ÷ 2
= 2480 cm
3 2480 mℓ = 2.48 ℓ
Answer(s): (a) 3360 cm
3; (b) 2.48 ℓ
