A tank was completely filled with water. The ratio of the length of the tank to its breadth to its height is 10 : 4 : 13.
- Given that the length of the tank is 20 cm, find the volume of water in the tank.
- All the water in the tank was poured into 2 empty bottles W and X without spilling any water. As a result, Bottle W had 1800 cm3 more water than Bottle X. Find the volume of water in Bottle W. Give your answer in litres.
(a)
Length of the tank = 10 u
Breadth of the tank = 4 u
Height of the tank = 13 u
10 u = 20
1 u = 20 ÷ 10 = 2
Breadth of the tank
= 4 u
= 4 x 2
= 8 cm
Height of the tank
= 13 u
= 13 x 2
= 26 cm
Volume of water in the tank
= 20 x 8 x 26
= 4160 cm
3 (b)
Volume of water in Bottle W
= (4160 + 1800) ÷ 2
= 5960 ÷ 2
= 2980 cm
3 2980 mℓ = 2.98 ℓ
Answer(s): (a) 4160 cm
3; (b) 2.98 ℓ
