A tank was completely filled with water. The ratio of the length of the tank to its breadth to its height is 10 : 8 : 11.
- Given that the length of the tank is 20 cm, find the volume of water in the tank.
- All the water in the tank was poured into 2 empty bottles N and P without spilling any water. As a result, Bottle N had 1700 cm3 more water than Bottle P. Find the volume of water in Bottle N. Give your answer in litres.
(a)
Length of the tank = 10 u
Breadth of the tank = 8 u
Height of the tank = 11 u
10 u = 20
1 u = 20 ÷ 10 = 2
Breadth of the tank
= 8 u
= 8 x 2
= 16 cm
Height of the tank
= 11 u
= 11 x 2
= 22 cm
Volume of water in the tank
= 20 x 16 x 22
= 7040 cm
3 (b)
Volume of water in Bottle N
= (7040 + 1700) ÷ 2
= 8740 ÷ 2
= 4370 cm
3 4370 mℓ = 4.37 ℓ
Answer(s): (a) 7040 cm
3; (b) 4.37 ℓ
