A tank was completely filled with water. The ratio of the length of the tank to its breadth to its height is 7 : 4 : 9.
- Given that the length of the tank is 14 cm, find the volume of water in the tank.
- All the water in the tank was poured into 2 empty bottles T and U without spilling any water. As a result, Bottle T had 1200 cm3 more water than Bottle U. Find the volume of water in Bottle T. Give your answer in litres.
(a)
Length of the tank = 7 u
Breadth of the tank = 4 u
Height of the tank = 9 u
7 u = 14
1 u = 14 ÷ 7 = 2
Breadth of the tank
= 4 u
= 4 x 2
= 8 cm
Height of the tank
= 9 u
= 9 x 2
= 18 cm
Volume of water in the tank
= 14 x 8 x 18
= 2016 cm
3 (b)
Volume of water in Bottle T
= (2016 + 1200) ÷ 2
= 3216 ÷ 2
= 1608 cm
3 1608 mℓ = 1.608 ℓ
Answer(s): (a) 2016 cm
3; (b) 1.608 ℓ
