A tank was completely filled with water. The ratio of the length of the tank to its breadth to its height is 10 : 3 : 12.
- Given that the height of the tank is 24 cm, find the volume of water in the tank.
- All the water in the tank was poured into 2 empty bottles N and P without spilling any water. As a result, Bottle N had 1500 cm3 more water than Bottle P. Find the volume of water in Bottle N. Give your answer in litres.
(a)
Length of the tank = 10 u
Breadth of the tank = 3 u
Height of the tank = 12 u
12 u = 24
1 u = 24 ÷ 12 = 2
Length of the tank
= 10 u
= 10 x 2
= 20 cm
Breadth of the tank
= 3 u
= 3 x 2
= 6 cm
Volume of water in the tank
= 20 x 6 x 24
= 2880 cm
3 (b)
Volume of water in Bottle N
= (2880 + 1500) ÷ 2
= 4380 ÷ 2
= 2190 cm
3 2190 mℓ = 2.19 ℓ
Answer(s): (a) 2880 cm
3; (b) 2.19 ℓ
