A tank was completely filled with water. The ratio of the length of the tank to its breadth to its height is 10 : 8 : 9.
- Given that the length of the tank is 20 cm, find the volume of water in the tank.
- All the water in the tank was poured into 2 empty bottles A and B without spilling any water. As a result, Bottle A had 1500 cm3 more water than Bottle B. Find the volume of water in Bottle A. Give your answer in litres.
(a)
Length of the tank = 10 u
Breadth of the tank = 8 u
Height of the tank = 9 u
10 u = 20
1 u = 20 ÷ 10 = 2
Breadth of the tank
= 8 u
= 8 x 2
= 16 cm
Height of the tank
= 9 u
= 9 x 2
= 18 cm
Volume of water in the tank
= 20 x 16 x 18
= 5760 cm
3 (b)
Volume of water in Bottle A
= (5760 + 1500) ÷ 2
= 7260 ÷ 2
= 3630 cm
3 3630 mℓ = 3.63 ℓ
Answer(s): (a) 5760 cm
3; (b) 3.63 ℓ
