A tank was completely filled with water. The ratio of the length of the tank to its breadth to its height is 10 : 4 : 11.
- Given that the length of the tank is 20 cm, find the volume of water in the tank.
- All the water in the tank was poured into 2 empty bottles G and H without spilling any water. As a result, Bottle G had 1300 cm3 more water than Bottle H. Find the volume of water in Bottle G. Give your answer in litres.
(a)
Length of the tank = 10 u
Breadth of the tank = 4 u
Height of the tank = 11 u
10 u = 20
1 u = 20 ÷ 10 = 2
Breadth of the tank
= 4 u
= 4 x 2
= 8 cm
Height of the tank
= 11 u
= 11 x 2
= 22 cm
Volume of water in the tank
= 20 x 8 x 22
= 3520 cm
3 (b)
Volume of water in Bottle G
= (3520 + 1300) ÷ 2
= 4820 ÷ 2
= 2410 cm
3 2410 mℓ = 2.41 ℓ
Answer(s): (a) 3520 cm
3; (b) 2.41 ℓ
