Let 1 B be the volume of 1 bottle of water.
Volume of water that Carl had = 15 B + 3 --- (1)
Volume of water that Paul had = 11 B + 3.44 --- (2)
The volume of water that Carl and Paul have is the same.
(1) = (2)
15 B + 3 = 11 B + 3.44
15 B - 11 B = 3.44 - 3
4 B = 0.44
1 B = 0.44 ÷ 4 = 0.11
1 ℓ = 1000 mℓ
0.11 ℓ = 0.11 x 1000 = 110 mℓ

Volume of 15 bottles
= 15 x 0.11
= 1.65 ℓ
Volume of water that Carl had at first
= 15 B + 3
= 15 x 0.11 + 3
= 1.65 + 3
= 4.65 ℓ
Total volume of water that Carl and Paul had at first
= 2 x 4.65
= 9.3 ℓ
