There were some motorcycles, cars and vans.
23 of the total vehicles were motorcycles and cars. There were 9 vans and twice as many motorcycles as cars. How many more motorcycles than cars were there?
Motorcycles |
Cars |
Vans |
2x3 |
1x3 |
2x2 |
1x2 |

4 u |
2 u |
3 u |
The total number of motorcycles and cars is repeated. Make the total number of motorcycles and cars the same. LCM of 2 and 3 is 6.
Number of vans = 3 u
3 u = 9
1 u = 9 ÷ 3 = 3
Number of more motorcycles than cars
= 4 u - 2 u
= 2 u
= 2 x 3
= 6
Answer(s): 6
