The number of puffs that Luis and Jack each had in the end is the same. Make the number of puffs that Luis and Jack each had in the end the same. LCM of 5 and 1 is 5.
Number of puffs that Luis had less than Jack at first
= 20 u - 8 u
= 12 u
12 u = 48
1 u = 48 ÷ 12 = 4
Number of puffs that Luis had at first
= 8 u
= 8 x 4
= 32
