There was 6.5 ℓ of water in a basin and 1.1 ℓ of water in a tank. Ken then poured in an equal volume of water into each container. Now, the volume of water in the basin is 4 times in the tank. How much water did Ken pour into each container?

After |
4 u |
1 u |
3 u |
Difference in the volume of water between the basin and the tank
= 6.5 - 1.1
= 5.4 ℓ
Since Ken poured in an equal volume of water into each container, the difference in the volume of water at first and in the end remains the same.
3 u = 5.4
1 u = 5.4 ÷ 3 = 1.8
Volume of water that Ken poured into each container
= 1 u - 1.1
= 1.8 - 1.1
= 0.7 ℓ
Answer(s): 0.7 ℓ
