There was 10.6 ℓ of water in a basin and 2.4 ℓ of water in a tank. Ahmad then poured in an equal volume of water into each container. Now, the volume of water in the basin is 3 times in the tank. How much water did Ahmad pour into each container?

3 u |
1 u |
2 u |
Difference in the volume of water between the basin and the tank
= 10.6 - 2.4
= 8.2 ℓ
Since Ahmad poured in an equal volume of water into each container, the difference in the volume of water at first and in the end remains the same.
2 u = 8.2
1 u = 8.2 ÷ 2 = 4.1
Volume of water that Ahmad poured into each container
= 1 u - 2.4
= 4.1 - 2.4
= 1.7 ℓ
Answer(s): 1.7 ℓ
