There was 7 ℓ of water in a basin and 1.6 ℓ of water in a tank. Albert then poured in an equal volume of water into each container. Now, the volume of water in the basin is 3 times in the tank. How much water did Albert pour into each container?

After |
3 u |
1 u |
2 u |
Difference in the volume of water between the basin and the tank
= 7 - 1.6
= 5.4 ℓ
Since Albert poured in an equal volume of water into each container, the difference in the volume of water at first and in the end remains the same.
2 u = 5.4
1 u = 5.4 ÷ 2 = 2.7
Volume of water that Albert poured into each container
= 1 u - 1.6
= 2.7 - 1.6
= 1.1 ℓ
Answer(s): 1.1 ℓ
