(a)
The amount that Diana and Emma had in the end is the same. Make the amount that they each had in the end the same. LCM of 1 and 2 is 2.
Total amount that Diana and Emma had at first
= 5 u + 4 u
= 9 u
9 u = 630
1 u = 630 ÷ 9 = 70
Amount that Diana had at first
= 5 u
= 5 x 70
= $350
(b)
Amount that Emma had at first
= 4 u
= 4 x 70
= $280
Emma has the same number of $5-note and $2-note at first.
Value of 1 set of $5-note and $2-note
= 5 + 2
= $7
Number of 5-notes
= 280 ÷ 7
= 40
Answer(s): (a) $350; (b) 40
