Since the number of boys is 20 more than the number of girls in the end, when we
add 20 to (2) to form (3), the number of boys and girls in the end will be the same.
(1) = (3)
8 u - 11 = 5 u + 40
8 u - 5 u = 40 + 11
3 u = 51
1 u = 51 ÷ 3 = 17
Number of pupils in the end
= 8 u + 5 u - 11 + 20
= 13 u + 9
= 13 x 17 + 9
= 221 + 9
= 230
Answer(s): 230
